Gas Appliance Installation Regulations
Before you search for professionals to complete a gas installation in your home, you should read the gas appliance installation regulations to ensure your gas appliance can be fitted correctly and safely. One of the most important gas appliance installation regulations is to ensure that your gas appliance is installed by a Gas Safe engineer. Anyone who completes a gas installation without being appropriately qualified is committing a crime and posing a great threat to your family and your home. Here at Cooker Service we only hire professionals who are Gas Safe registered and competent in gas appliance installation.
It is important for you to understand and know the gas appliance installation regulations before you have a cooker, hob or oven installed as it could mean that additional work needs to be carried out to ensure your installation does not contradict the gas appliance installation regulations.
Gas appliance regulations can include the following:
- Distances from objects to the cooker, oven & hob
- Separation gaps from worktops to the gas appliance
- Flame Safety Devices
A freestanding cooker with a high level grill requires a minimum of 610mm clearance above the grill. When it comes to hobs a minimum of 750mm clearance is required above a gas hob to a cooker hood. The gap may be reduced to 727mm above a gas hob on the condition that the hood is cleaned regularly to prevent fire hazards. Any wall units that are either side of the hood must be at least 366mm above.
Freestanding Cooker – A minimum of 20mm is required either side of the appliance.
Hob – A minimum of 300mm clearance is required either side of the hob if installing next to flammable material.
Flame Safety Device
A Flame Supervision Device is part of the gas burner system. The device detects if the flame is extinguished and cuts off the gas supply. This effects flats and multi-dwelling buildings which include dual purpose properties i.e. flats above shops. It does not include detached, semi-detached or terraced houses.
